Counselling is a type of talking therapy that allows a person to share their thoughts and feelings in a confidential and non-judgmental space. There are many different types of talking therapy, but they all involve working with a trained therapist. The therapist is trained to listen with empathy and help you understand and cope with the problems you are experiencing.
One of the most important aspects of the counselling process is finding a therapist you feel comfortable with and who really understands you.
We will support you with this process by offering you a free introductory 20-minute consultation with our trained therapist. This will be a chance for them to answer any questions you may have and discover if they are the right therapist for you.
Your counselling journey will be a unique reflection of you and your needs. Counselling lends itself both to short term work, for example, to help you identify current challenges and action changes and longer-term work, if you wish perhaps to gain a better understanding of established behaviour patterns or how your childhood, relationships or past development can continue to impact you. You may already know what brings you to counselling or you may discover this on your journey.

Hear what Sophie can offer;
My career in healthcare has provided me with a lived experience of the challenges such a role brings and the personal impact it can have on an individual. In recent year I have realised the aspect of my job I value the most is creating the space to be with and talk with people, and I am privileged to witness the positive effects this has.
I also appreciate the significant demands our 21st century lifestyle places upon us and the often unrealistic standards we can impose both on ourselves and our relationships. This can leave little time for selfcare and reflection. Non-judgmental support, connection and the ability to be truly heard can increasingly be missing in our lives and counselling can provide this, within a secure and supportive environment.
My approach to Counselling is Integrative which means I bring different elements of specific therapeutic approaches together to suit your individual needs and circumstances. For example, you may wish to seek help with anxiety, or maybe you are experiencing a major life transition such as divorce or bereavement. Together, we can explore your concerns and areas of difficulty within a time frame that works for you.
I am approachable and down to earth and will offer space where you are valued, listened to and accepted without judgement. I am passionate about my work and I believe the counselling relationship is essential in supporting you, so choosing the right therapist is important.
I am a member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and adhere to their ethical guidelines. I undertake regular clinical professional development and participate in clinical supervision.
If at any time I consider you may benefit form a more specific counselling approach which I am not adequately trained in, I will always be transparent in advising you of this.
